Community Colleges, The Key to Your Future
Unlock Your Potential at Roxbury Community College
Roxbury Community College was founded in 1973 to bring access to higher education to communities of color in Boston, MA. In those early days, the community and student demonstrations were poignant, visceral, and the structural inequalities in the educational system brought into clear focus. Nearly half a century later, the struggle continues through the Black Lives Matter movement. The relevance and importance of institutions such as Roxbury Community College is reaffirmed. RCC is part of the civil rights struggle then and now. It continues as an iconic symbol to many in our community.
Now is the time to join Roxbury Community College. We offer associate degrees and certificates preparing graduates for baccalaureate transfer, and career preparation. The RCC student body is approximately 90% students of color, and an RCC education makes a measurable impact on family income. We are a non-traditional community, that is 66% female with an average age 31 years. Boston, MA is a gateway city, and as such is home to immigrants from all over the world. Approximately one third of RCC students completed secondary school in other countries, and speak more than 25 languages. This rich heritage makes Roxbury Community College unique among community colleges in the Commonwealth and the US.
High quality instruction is essential to student success. RCC faculty have a minimum of a master’s degree and teach in their areas of specialization with any and all requisite industry credentials. In addition, the faculty have a personal commitment to community college education, and the needs of non-traditional students. This results in innovative pedagogies and comprehensive student support networks.
Affordability is essential to the ability of under-served, non-traditional and immigrant students to complete their educational goals. RCC strives to keep the tuition and mandatory fees for a full-time student to the maximum PELL award of $6000. RCC students do not have to take loans to complete an Associate degree. In addition, RCC was a founding member college of the Mayor’s Tuition Free
At Roxbury Community College (RCC), our sole focus is on supporting your success now, and in the future. We are committed to providing you with an engaging and inclusive learning environment while ensuring that you have everything you need to unlock your potential.
Embracing Change
Resilience is a hallmark of Roxbury Community College. Our mission is to help students thrive, no matter the circumstances. Over the past year, we’ve learned so much from responding to both the existing and new challenges facing our students.
Remote instruction allowed us to create more creative and flexible course offerings, without sacrificing quality. We’ve also risen to the challenge of identifying and implementing new solutions in order to respond to our student’s concerns regarding technology access, financial assistance, and health and wellness. This holistic approach allows us to alleviate stress for our students while addressing obstacles to education that exist both in and outside of the classroom.
“Remote instruction compelled us to address the digital divide, create flexible teaching and learning, and maintain the collective spirit of Roxbury Community College.”
